We exist because teenagers excluded from school experience a loss of connection to education and to community. Our young people lose a part of their identity and their sense of self-worth. This disconnection comes at an immense cost, at both a personal and societal level.
Grounded in love, compassion and kindness, our intensive and immersive creative arts projects with top New Zealand artists mean these awesome young people reconnect, find purpose and direction, and successfully re-engage with education and move onto employment.
Our work teaches communication skills and critical decision making processes. Young people are challenged to take positive risks in creativity, supported by their artist-mentors. We work with young people and their whanau for a least 12 months and engagement in our creative arts programs is supported by the day-to-day work of our Director of Engagement and Youth Mentor throughout the year.
Programs range from arts-access programs, to high-engagement one-to-one and group mentoring in creative arts for young leaders in alternative education, facilitated at the NRT School of Creativity. Our mentoring team also provides outreach classroom support to alternative education tutors.
